Skully Gustafson

Skully Gustafson, aka Skully Skyrocket, makes work that draws from human environments. His paintings are robust combinations of acrylic, spray paint, drawing and collage. Found objects and materials are sometimes sculpted together, painted, collaged and pasted on the floors, walls, and ceilings to create space that is foreign to the viewer. Process is an important aspect of the work in that it changes quickly and intuitively. The work is positive in that it is pure devotion to the essence of art and creation. The work rebels against stale identity and performs brutalist expressions in regards to the here and now.

Skully lives and works in Milwaukee, WI. In 2012 he received his BFA in Integrated Studio Arts from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and studied for a semester in Brooklyn, NY at the New York Studio Residency Program. He has shown his work in solo and group exhibitions in Wisconsin as well as  Brooklyn, NY.
